Now In Stock: Full Line of Wicked Colors by Createx January 31, 2011

Filed under: Uncategorized — evartandframe @ 8:06 pm

After great demand, we’re proud to announce we now stock the full line of Wicked Colors by Createx! A true multi surface paint, this is a must have for any airbrush artist. Choose from over 40 Wicked colors and Wicked Detail colors.

Wicked Colors

Wicked Colors is an ultra-high performance, multi-surface airbrush paint suitable for any substrate from fabric to automotive applications. Wicked Colors are perfect for t-shirts, automotive graphics, illustration and most any application. Wicked contains mild amounts of solvent inter-mixed with a durable, exterior-grade resign and automotive pigments for an extremely durable paint that withstands direct, prolonged exposure to outdoors elements without washing or fading.

Wicked Colors have exceptional flow and atomization right out of the bottle with most airbrush tip-sizes, including 0.2mm detail tips. Wicked Colors may be reduced with W100 Reducer or Auto Air 4011 Flash Reducer in any ratio for improved flow, atomization and customizing viscosity preferences.

All Wicked Colors are made with the same highly durable binder.  Wicked Colors are sheered to a binder size of 0.5 microns and dry semi-gloss level of 70+ degrees.  Wicked Detail Colors are sheered to a particle size of 0.1 microns and dry to a flat finish of 30+ degrees, perfect for illustrators as a flat finish reflects the color’s true hue.

For automotive refinishing, a durable, catalyzed urethane clear is recommended. Wicked Colors cure to a strong film with air drying alone. Heat may be used to further assist curing and is recommended for t-shirts and fabrics intended for use with multiple washings. Heat is not required for automotive, illustration and most other applications. For more application information, visit www.createxcolors.com > technical pages.

FREE oil painting demo with Karen McClelland December 30, 2010

Filed under: Uncategorized — evartandframe @ 1:19 am

FREE! Oil Painting Demo with Karen McClelland January 8th

Karen will be doing a demo in the direct painting method. Direct painting (also known as alla prima) refers to a method by which the artist applies each stroke of paint with the intention of having it stand as the final stroke. There is very little retouching or over painting done after the paint from the first sitting has dried. This is an opaque painting technique used by the Impressionist in their early work. Direct painting relies on more planning because artist must consider form, color and value simultaneously. Artist use this technique when they want a fresh and spontaneous look to their paintings.

Unique Gift Ideas for Artists! December 9, 2010

Filed under: Uncategorized — evartandframe @ 7:40 pm

We all have trouble this time of year brainstorming ideas for the person that has everything! We’re here to help! Here are some unique gifts for any artist…

Great Gift Ideas!

Buying for someone who loves their medium can be daunting. We’re here to help! Here are some recommendations that aren’t run of the mill!

holly7

For Watercolorists…

One of our favorite brushes is the Niji Waterbrush. The body of the brush is a hollow barrel that you fill with water. It eliminates the need to constantly rewet your brush. Just squeeze it and clean water fills the bristles.

If you’re looking for a unique substrate, Fredrix makes a watercolor canvas with specially formulated, absorbent gesso that allows it to accept watercolor techniques. This definitely breaks a uncommon ground for watercolorists.

 holly7

For Acrylic Painters…

Acrylic has many exciting mediums and gels to offer. Some unconventional ones include glass bead gel by Golden or “Black Lava” gel by Liquitex. Both of these create awesome effects with extraordinary texture.

If you don’t want to go that far out of the box and keep a more traditional approach, clear gesso is a good option. Raw substrates, such as our cradled panels, primed with this can keep their organic look.

 holly7

For Oil Painters…

For a long time oil painters have complained about the smell of solvents and mediums. A rather inventive product for the oil painter is water soluble oils. Do not assume this is like starting a whole new line of paint. WAS oils are compatible with traditional oils and mediums which allows for a gradual switch and less upfront investment.

holly7

For Pastelists…

A great idea for oil pastelists are water soluble oil pastels. One of our favorite and unique gifts to recommend!

For soft pastelists…Golden makes a Pastel Ground medium that breaks the limits most pastelists are faced with when it comes to substrate surfaces. The ground can be applied to papers, canvas, wood and many other surfaces.

These gifts are sure to WOW when received!
